Takeover and clean-up

Taking over your WordPress website from your previous developer

I take over WordPress websites from agencies and freelancers. In 2 weeks I audit the site, catch up on updates, fix issues, improve speed and set up backups, and you get a report at the end. Then we can move on to ongoing care.

Who it's for

When a takeover is worth it

  • Your previous developer has disappeared or stopped replying, and nobody in the company knows how the site is built.
  • Updates have been postponed for months because each one ends in stress.
  • You're not sure who has access to the admin panel, hosting and domain.
  • The site keeps getting slower, or errors appear that nobody can explain.

What's included

What the takeover and clean-up include

A fixed price of €690 net and 2 weeks of work. I start with an audit and a backup, and only then make changes.

Audit and access

I check plugins, the theme, the PHP version, hosting and the accounts with access. I tidy up access so it's clear who can get into what.

A backup before changes

Before I change anything, I make a full backup of the files and database, kept off the server.

Overdue updates

I catch up on overdue updates in stages rather than changing everything at once.

Fixes

I fix the issues found in the audit. If a fix goes beyond the takeover, I quote it separately before I start.

Speed

I improve whatever slows the site down the most: images, caching, heavy plugins and scripts.

Report

At the end you get a report: what was done, what state the site is in and what's worth doing next.

How we start

How we start working together

  1. Step 01

    A conversation about your website

Tell me what works, what gets in the way and what support your team needs. We agree on where to start.

  2. Step 02

    Review and proposal

I look at the website and propose a scope of work and a billing approach. If a more detailed review is needed, we agree on its scope separately.

  3. Step 03

    The first improvements

We work through the agreed priorities: fixes, improvements or day-to-day needs. You know what I am working on and which decisions need your input.

  4. Step 04

    Ongoing care and development

We continue with an agreed monthly allowance of hours. I maintain the website and we plan further tasks around your business needs.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will you take over a website built by someone else?

Yes, that's most of my work. I start with an audit and a backup, and only then make changes.

How long does a takeover take, and what does it cost?

2 weeks and €690 net, one-off. In that time I audit the site, update it, fix issues, improve speed and set up backups, and then hand over a report.

Do I need to contact my previous developer?

It isn't necessary. I need access to the WordPress admin panel, the hosting and the domain.

What if the audit reveals bigger problems?

I describe them in the report with a priority and the cost to fix them. Work beyond the takeover is quoted separately, before it starts.

Do I have to stay on ongoing care after the takeover?

No. The takeover ends with a report, and you can stop there. If the site is going to keep developing, I'll suggest one of the care plans.
